Most of the wastewater produced by the textile industry is colored due to the inefficiency of the dyeing processes. This poses a great threat to the environment, thus demanding an efficient method for the decolorization of textile effluent. Bioremediation is a safe and economic alternative to the commonly employed physicochemical and biological methods to treat these toxic effluents. In the present study, the potential of effluent adapted microaerophilic bacteria to decolorize textile effluent containing Acid Red and Reactive Black B was studied. Five microaerophilic bacteria were isolated that effectively decolorize the textile effluent. The result enthuses to recommend their potential to be exploited for developing practical means for environmental cleanup.
