Assessment Of Patient-Centered Outcomes In Hemodialysis Patients: Insights from the Modified KDQOL Tool

Abstract: Background: Hemodialysis can affect both general and kidney-specific quality of life in CKD patients. In this study, we will use the modified KDQOL questionnaire—covering physical and mental health, burden, symptoms, and effects of kidney disease—to assess the impact of hemodialysis on patients’ quality of life. Material and Methods: For a period of six months, the prospective observational research will be conducted. After receiving permission from the tertiary care hospital, the trial was conducted. The patient data collection form will be used to gather information. A recognised questionnaire is used to gather information on the general and disease-specific details of patients utilising MS Excel and SPSS 1.2 version. A statistical analysis of the data will be conducted. Results:A total of 225 patients were included in this study. The overall survey response rate of our study is 93%. Mean scores of PCS, MCS, BKD, SPKD, EKD subscales were 1.84, 2.95,1.96,4.02,3.39 respectively. The overall mean score of patients in all domains is 14.19. Our findings demonstrated that individuals' calorie and protein intakes were insufficient, and that poor quality of life is also linked to food intake, particularly a low-protein diet. Conclusion: Our study found that male patients had higher overall KDQOL mean scores than females. These findings can help healthcare providers and families better understand the physical and psychological challenges faced by CKD patients. Since dialysis patients have only a moderate quality of life, further improvements in renal rehabilitation are needed to enhance their QOL.
