Abstract: Background:Cosmetics have played a significant role in human culture, with their use dating back to ancient civilizations. In modern times, the cosmetic industry has witnessed remarkable growth, driven by evolving beauty standards, social influences, and advancements in skincare and personal care products. India, one of the fastest-growing markets for cosmetics, has seen a surge in demand for beauty and personal care products due to factors such as increasing disposable income, urbanization, and exposure to global trends. Aims and Objectives: The main objective was to evaluate the knowledge, attitude, and practices (KAP) of the Indian citizens towards the use of cosmetics medicines. Materials and Methods: After obtaining approval from Institutional Ethics Committee and informed consent from the participants, a cross-sectional, prevalidated, and questionnaire-based study was conducted among Indian citizens. Results: Out of 546 participants, the response rate was 87%, with 70.5% being female. Awareness of different cosmetic ingredients was reported by 89.92% of participants, while 14.83% had knowledge of harmful ingredients. Regarding purchasing behavior, 30.77% of participants bought cosmetics online, and 73.30 % relied on product reviews for their buying decisions. Additionally, 71.61% read ingredient labels before purchasing. Hair-care products emerged as the most frequently used category, reported by 79.7% of respondents. This was followed closely by skincare products at 75.1%, and makeup products at 65.9%. When it comes to the impact of cosmetics, 65.56 % of students believed that using them could improve self-confidence. Awareness of the hazards associated with expired products was high (70.14%), and only 10.% admitted to using cosmetics past their expiration date. Conclusion:People in India are becoming more aware and careful about using cosmetics. Most check ingredients and avoid expired products. Those with higher education showed better knowledge and habits, highlighting the role of education in safe cosmetic use. However, social media and trends still influence choices, even among the educated.
