Knowledge, Practices, and Challenges of Pharmacists in Qatar about Pharmaceuticals Inventory Management: A Cross-Sectional Survey

Author: , SILPA SASIKUMAR, MOHAMED FAROOK SHAJAHAN, FAYAZ PATAN, ASHRAF KP
Abstract: The pharmacy is one of the most extensively used facilities in healthcare. The pharmacy management system includes inventory management, which is the process of keeping an eye on and managing medications and supplies to make sure there are enough of them. Reducing the number of outdated medications and making sure they are available are other crucial tasks for maximizing patient satisfaction. This involves keeping precise records of stock levels while ordering, receiving, arranging, properly storing, and efficiently delivering medications. Pharmacy-related supplies should always be available in the appropriate amount. The cost of acquired pharmaceutical products and related operating expenses is decreased by effective inventory management, increasing gross and net profits. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the practice, expertise, and difficulties associated with using inventory management strategies. A cross-sectional survey was conducted between July and August 2024 with pharmacists from Qatar. Pharmacists were invited to answer a validated questionnaire, implemented through Google Forms, containing 37 questions related to pharmacy inventory management. Most of the pharmacists were aware of ABC, XYZ, VED, and FSN inventory management methods. About 64% of the pharmacists mentioned that they conduct a monthly full inventory check in their pharmacy. About 43% of the pharmacists conveyed that stockouts and overstock are the main challenges faced by them in managing the inventory.
