A comprehensive review: Phytochemical and ethnopharmacological attributes of Caloropis procera, Tabernaemontana divaricata and Nyctanthes arbortristis

Abstract: Caloropis procera, Tabernaemontana divaricata and Nyctanthes arbortristis is a multipurpose plant that is extensively used by traditional folk healers and local people for preparation of different drugs and ailments of choice to treat different diseases and disorders. Plant contains diverse phyto-chemicals which show various pharmaceutical and ethno-medicinal properties. This plants contained many biological active chemical groups including, cardenolides, steroids, tannins, glycosides, phenols, terpenoids, sugars, flavonoids, alkaloids and saponins. Caloropis procera exerted many pharmacological effects such as antimicrobial, anthelmintic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic, anticancer, anti-angiogenic, immunological, antidiabetic, cardiovascular, hypolipidemic, gastroprotective, hepatic protective, renal protective, antidiarrheal, antioxidant, anticonvulsant, enhancement of wound healing, antifertility and smooth muscle relaxant effect. Nyctanthes arbortristis is traditionally used in the treatment of hair tonic, hepatoprotective, anti-leishmaniasis, anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-pyretic, anti-histaminic, anti-malerial, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant activities of Night jasmine and emphasizes the need for further exploring available information. Recently investigations on T. divaricata reported Hippocratic screening, antianxiety, anticonvulsant, antidiabetic and cytotoxic, antifertility, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and gastroprotective effects. The present review will highlight the chemical constituents and the pharmacological and therapeutic effects of Calotropis procera, Tabernaemontana divaricata and Nyctanthes arbortristis.
