In pharmaceutical sciences, the solubility of drug substances holds an important parameter for dosage form designing studies and isolation of various chemical constituents from the natural sources. The precise solubility determination of powder drug is still a herculean task. Various techniques are available for the determination of solubilities of drug substances but suffer with limitations like requirement of sophisticated instruments and longer time. In order to solve such problems, in this research work, the solubility of oleanolic acid in ethanol, methanol, chloroform, acetone and water was determined by sonication assisted method and was comparatively studied with traditional shake-flask method. In this method we quantitatively analyze the amount of undissolved drug rather than dissolved. The sonication assisted method was found simple, less time consuming, don’t need costly equipments and gave reproducible results. We found, the method is suitable for quantitative solubility determination of oleanolic acid and other drugs in the absence of sophisticated instruments as compared to traditional shake-flask method.
