Abstract: Tuberculosis is one of the main cause of human death worldwide. Asia and African countries share about 55% of world’s TB burden while India has the highest rate of TB infection in the world, accounting for one-fifth of all new TB cases each year. The mismanagement of the approved drugs for treatment of TB raised the drugresistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MDR and XDR strains. As a result, treating multidrug-resistant (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) tuberculosis patients is a huge challenge for emerging and underdeveloped countries. Hence, Medicinal plants based drugs will be one of the safest alternate for the treatment of the multidrug-resistant TB. Therefore, we haveevaluated the drug potential of Martyniaannua L. belongs to family Martyniaceae (or pedaliaceae), is a well-known small herbaceous annual plant, distributed throughout India medicinal plants traditionally used by tribal groups in India against tuberculosis in the current study. The prepared powder from Stem were subjected to isolate different extracts using Soxhlet extractor, with different solvent have been used. The anti-tubercular activity have been performed on the ATCC culture of Mycobacterium smegmatis (ATCC 607, Lot 114-26-4). We reported significant anti-tubercular activity in methonolic extract of theMartyniaannua L.This study gives some scientific basis to the traditional use of these plants for TB-related symptoms.
