A strong lethality effect of Wedelia trilobata (L.) Hitchc n-Hexane fractional extract on brine shrimp

Author: HOANG THANH CHI, BUI THI KIM LY
Abstract: Wedelia trilobata is an herbaceous plant widely grown in tropical and subtropical areas, including Southeast Asian countries. Extracts from this plant were studied and showed various medically efficient bio-activities. This study was carried out to mediate the screen bio-effects of W. trilobata via the brine shrimp lethality assay. Four fractions of the extract were added into the fostering solution of Artemia salina for 24 hours, and then the percentage of alive larvae was calculated. The results showed that the n-hexane was the most toxic to brine shrimp vitality, with an LC50 of 9.50 ± 0.60 µg/mL. The fractions of ethyl acetate and chloroform had average toxicity with an LC50 at a concentration of 92.92 ± 6.43 µg/mL and 175.5 ± 40.00 µg/mL, respectively. The water extract did not exhibit any toxicity impact.
