Objective: to determine whether a relationship exists between correction of Vit. D level in Vit. D deficient women and improve ICSI outcome parameters in poor responder women.
Design: Prospective randomized controlled trial
Setting: Assisted Reproduction Unit in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department-Faculty of Medicine Cairo University
Patient(s): A total of 100 infertile poor responder’s women above the age of 38 of age who had baseline hormone measurements and had Vit D deficiency
Intervention(s): oral Vit D 10000IU once daily for 5 days aweek for 6 to 8 weeks before the start of induction of ovulation
Main Outcome Measure(s): Statistical analyses to determine whether a relationship exists between correction of Vit. D level in Vit. D deficient women and Numbers and quality of top embryos or mature follicles (MII), Duration of ovarian stimulation, Number of oocyte retrieved, Fertilization rate, Implantation rate and pregnancy rate.
Result(s): No significant difference was observed between the intervention and control groups regarding the mean number of oocytes retrieved, Implantation Rate, fertilization rate and the rate of pregnancy (all P>0.05).
Conclusion(s): Vitamin D levels were not associated with number and quality of top embryos or mature follicles (MII)neither nor duration of ovarian stimulation, number of oocytes retrieved, implantation rate and pregnancy rate. However, the current study prove that Vitamin D supplement may improve the fertilization rate in poor responder’s women undergoing ICSI and may decrease the cancelation rate during the ovulation induction cycles.
