Chemical substances that pose potential/actual harm to the environment, human health and for which no documented health standards exist are referred to as emerging contaminants. Each year, micro-pollutants from medications, personal care products, insecticides, microplastics, and other substances become more prominent due to the manufacturing of about 2000 new compounds. Many of these compounds, which are difficult to remove with current technologies, have found their way into our environment. There is currently no comprehensive single method to deal with this problem. The use of pharmaceuticals has greatly improved the lives of people across the globe. However, these contaminants are making their way into our water system through excretion and improper disposal, and our conventional wastewater treatment plants are not designed to attenuate these contaminants. Furthermore, the spread of antibacterial drugs microbes in the ecosystem is becoming a major worry as a result of antibacterial drug use. Environmental contaminants (ECs) are a type of pollutant that can harm the environmental balance.
