The prevalence of arthritis in the United States is around one-quarter of the population. Osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA), two of the most prevalent types of arthritis, may cause excruciating joint pain and significantly reduce a person's quality of life. Different pharmacological therapy may be employed when non-pharmacological treatment is not enough. However, pharmacological treatment may have serious adverse effects and be very costly. As a result, other treatments have been tested. The use of natural medications to treat arthritis has been shown safe and efficient. This review focuses on the mechanisms, safety, and effectiveness of herbal treatments for OA and RA. After searching electronic databases, we discovered nine botanicals utilised in 23 clinical studies to treat patients with OA or RA. OA and RA symptoms, pain, and inflammation have improved, according to the research. The powerful anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant effects of the herbs helped to minimise swelling and damage to the tissue. Several herbs have been shown to be effective in the treatment of OA and RA. Bioactivity, as well as adequate bioavailability, of these herbs in treating OA and RA need more research and clinical studies.
