As previously proven, the crude extract of Sphagneticola Trilobata possesses antioxidant activity. The current study attempts to find the bioactive fraction that confers the antioxidant activity on S. trilobata. The results indicated that the ethyl acetate extract has the lowest EC50 values, indicating the greatest DPPH scavenging activity (EC50 values for F-hexane, F-chloroform, F-ethyl acetate, and F-aqueous were > 800.00 µg/ml, 625.64 ± 43.05 µg/ml, 19.67 ± 0.98 g/ml, and 478.17 ± 34.67 µg/ml. Semi-polar molecules have the potential to be bioactive antioxidants. Additionally, there appeared to be a strong link between the phenolic content and antioxidant activity of the extracts, with the ethyl acetate fraction containing a higher phenolic content displaying stronger antioxidant activity.
