Effect of Extracts from Carissa Carandas Leaves on Cognitive Performance in Morris Water Maze in mice.

Author: DR.GANESH NARAYAN SHARMA, MS.JAYMALA ARUN KUMAWAT, DR.BIRENDRA SHRIVASTAVA, DR.VAISHALI M.MUTE
Abstract: The effect of extracts from Carissa carandas leaves administered in mice by gavage at different doses was studied on cognitive behavior in mice. Ethanolic extract (100 mg/kg) showed highest, but not methanolic, acetone and chloroform extract (100 mg/kg) showed a smaller escape latency to find the emerged platform in Morris water maze test. Showing nootropic-like effect in normal mice, and in electric shock induced traumatic amnesia mice compared to their controls group. Fluoxetine did alter escape latency in Morris water maze test (MWMT) only in electric shock induced traumatic amnesia in mice.
