The Study of Solid Medical Waste Managerial Policies in Deli Serdang

Abstract: Solid medical waste is part of the hazardous and toxic things. This study is important to expose the managerial medical waste based on the managerial policies as the key factor in successful of hospital waste management. The research aims to find the solid medical waste management based on the aspects of hospital policy. Quantitative and qualitative methods were used in this study to discover the phenomenon of hospital solid medical waste management in the challenging deli district. The data was collected by the combination of questionnaire, interview and observation sheet. The informers consisted of: the waste management officers, janitors, waste keepers and waste workers. The finding of study on the aspect of hospital waste management policy is there are 2 hospitals with waste management permit that supported by waste management facilities, and 15 hospitals did not have waste management permits. The notes of waste amount was collected by 12 hospitals, and 5 hospitals did not do to record this was due to lack of internal and external supervision, and supervision was not performed regularly. It was needed to arrange the policies, start from the responsible administration, management and supervision mechanisms so that the waste management is done properly and not hazardous.
