Aim: The aim of present study was to compare self-efficacy levels of patients with chronic pain and outpatients.
Methods: In this study, 140 patients with chronic pain (Orthopedic, Nephrology) and outpatients (Emergency ward) referred to Imam Khomeini Hospital Clinic in Urmia were selected non-randomly and using a convenient sampling method were assigned to two groups. Participants were asked to complete the West Haven-Yale Multidimensional Pain Inventory (WHYMPI) and the Problem Coping Self-Efficacy Scale.
Results: The results were analyzed using t-test, Pearson correlation test and regression analysis and showed that there was a significant difference between the two groups in terms of self-efficacy. There was a significant positive correlation between chronic pain and self-efficacy and pain experience. Also, there was no significant difference between male and female patients with chronic pain in terms of self-efficacy.
Conclusion: According to the results of this study, self-efficacy can predict chronic pain.
