Pharmaceutical experts are currently interested in emulgel systems because of its significant potential to serve as a drug delivery vehicle by including a wide range of therapeutic compounds. It is a one-of-a-kind topical therapeutic delivery method that locates and accepts the drug directly through ophthalmic, epidermal, and rectal channels throughout the body. These are either water-in-oil emulsions or oil-in-water emulsions that have been gelled by adding a gelling agent. The addition of emulsion to the gel provides a dual control release system while also increasing the gel's stability. Between the various classes of semisolid preparations, the usage of gel has expanded in cosmetics and pharmaceutical preparations. Despite the gel, hydrophobic medical compounds are difficult to transport but this can be solved by employing a novel drug - delivery technique known as MICRO emulgel. Microemulgel has the benefit of a double emulsion and gel with a range of other desirable features such as a good consistency, water-soluble, thyrotropic, readily spreadable as well as removable, long shelf life, transparent, patient self-medication ability, and pleasant appearance. This review focuses on microemulgel, types, preparation, and their application.
