Introduction: The aim of this research was to predict the level of marital satisfaction and the tendency to separate
on two separate dimensions, based on mental health factors, attachment style and emotion regulation.
Method: The method of the present research is correlational and the sample size includes 171 married women
with children referred to health centers in District 5 of Tehran. The sampling method is at convenience. To
measure factors we used the marital quality scale of Busby et al. (1995), the desire for divorce of Roosevelt and
Johnson (1986), the general health of Goldberg and Hiller (1979), the attachment style of Collins and Reed
(1990) and Emotion Regulation of Gross and John (2003). Data were analyzed using stepwise regression.
Results: The results showed that the variables of "mental health" and "lack of emotion suppression" can predict
marital satisfaction and the factors of "avoidant attachment" and "lack of mental health" can predict the tendency
to separate.
Conclusion: Physical and mental health means the ability to adapt to the environment and the ability to meet
needs and expectations. Also, not suppressing emotion leads to creating a safe environment that leads to marital
satisfaction. On the other hand, lack of mental health leads to the presence of numerous internal and
interpersonal problems and also behaviors related to avoidant attachment, including defensiveness. Isolation and
lack of support lead to failure and dissatisfaction in the spouse.
