Results: The study comprised 125 hypertensive patients in the antenatal care (ANC) Outpatient Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology in a tertiary care hospital. Age distribution among the participants showed that most were in the middle age group i.e. 20-35 years, 101 (80.8%). The majority amongst them were in the age group of 25-29 years. The distribution of the participants based on Trimester showed approximately half of the participants, 60 (48%) were in the third trimester. 121 (96.8%) participants had pre-existing mild hypertensive and 04 (3.2%) had moderate, none had severe hypertension. Gestational hypertension was the most prevalent hypertensive disorder and Hypothyroidism, the commonest comorbidity. All the cases were on a monotherapy i.e. single drug regimen. The mixed alpha, beta-adrenergic antagonist was the preferred class among the pregnant females in monotherapy regimen followed by centrally acting antihypertensive drugs. In order of preference, Labetalol and Methyldopa were the preferred drugs.
Conclusion: Monotherapy was preferred treatment. Future drug utilization studies should be conducted to embrace detailed outcomes of risk and benefit for both the mother and baby
