A drug's aqueous solubility is an important factor in its dissolution rate. Poor bioavailability of orally administered medications is often caused by the reduced dissolution rate caused by low solubility. Various methods have been designed to improve the solubility, dissolution rate, and bioavailability of the products that have poor solubility. This review article discusses fundamental methods such as micronization, nanocrystals, solid dispersions, complexation of cyclodextrins, structural modifications, and other factors that have been investigated to resolve the problems associated with water-soluble drugs with poor solubility' oral bioavailability.
