Abstract:

Curcumin (Curcuma longa) is a traditional herbal perennial plant of the Zingiber officinalis family. It is a magical remedy due to its chemical nature and compounds which are are responsible for therapeutics effect in various diseases like psoriasis, hyper-lipidemia, arthritis, anxiety, aquired-immuno deficiency syndrome, H. pylori disease etc. Present work is aimed to review various pharmacological applications of curcumin A number of formulations containing curcumin are available to treat topical disease. The aim present work is to study the applications of cucumin in various diseases, their formulations as well as better understanding of a suitable formulation of curcumin. When curcumin administered via oral administration, it absorbed poorly and only a liitle amount reaches into systemic circulation due to its poor water solubility. It also undergoes extensive first-pass metabolism hence topical formulation are the found suitable to be developed for curcumin.
