Evaluation of the antioxidant and antiaging activity of Citrus Amblycarpa (Hassk.) Ochse peel and seed extract

Author: , DELIANA TARIGAN, LINDA CHIUMAN, CHRISMIS NOVALINDA GINTING
Abstract: Skin aging is a complex natural process by genetically or environmentally known as free radicals. The aging process can prevent by using antioxidant and anti-collagenase. Citrus Amblycarpa (Hassk.) Osche is well known as citrus fruit studied as the potential medicinal plant of Antioxidant, Antielastase, and Antidiabetic. This study is to evaluate the antioxidant and the antiaging properties of ethanol-extract Citrus Amblycarpa (Hassk.) Ochse peel (ECOP) and ethanol-extract Citrus Amblycarpa (Hassk.) Ochse seed (ECOS). The qualitative phytochemical screening was used to evaluate the secondary metabolites compounds. DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl) methods were used to evaluate the antioxidant activity, and FALGPA (N-(3-[2-Furyl] acryloyl)-Leu-Gly-Pro-Ala) methods used to evaluate collagenase inhibition activity. The phytochemical screening test showed ECOP contain flavonoids, phenolics, steroids, and alkaloids compounds and ECOS contain saponins, steroids and alkaloids. ECOP showed the lower activity on DPPH scavenging activity (IC50= 112.71 ± 4.50 µg/mL) than ECOS (IC50= 136.12 ± 21.35). The collagenase inhibition activity showed ECOP (IC50= 61.53 ± 0.75) lower than ECOS (IC50= 136.83 ± 2.19). From this study, Ethanol-extract Citrus Amblycarpa (Hassk.) Ochse peel (ECOP) showed the potential as the antioxidant and anti-collagenase in the aging process.
