Resilience and Sense of Coherence in Patients With Multiple Sclerosis

Author: NILOOFAR HEJAZI ZADEH, FATEMEH PIRZADEH, FATEMEH MONJAZEBI, MARYAM KHALILI
Abstract: Background: As multiple sclerosis is more common in young people, it is necessary to consider the factors that contribute to increased disease tolerance, such as resilience and sense of coherence. Methods: In this study, 200 patients with multiple sclerosis referred to the Multiple Sclerosis Association of Alborz were studied using the Connor-Davidson Resilience Questionnaire (2003) and Antonovski sense of coherence Questionnaire (1987). Results: The mean and standard deviation of resilience and sense of cohesion were 45.45, 93.5 and 75.7, 93.30, respectively. There was a significant and direct relationship between resilience and sense of coherence (r = 0.71, ß = 0.71, P = 0.01). Conclusion: Increased resilience improves the sense of cohesion in patients with MS. It is important that nurses pay attention to resilience and a sense of cohesion and factors that contribute to increased disease tolerance in patients with MS.
