Author: EZZATOLAH AHMADI, FATEMEH KHAZEN
Abstract: The main purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between emotional distress and physical symptoms with the mediation of cognitive emotion regulation strategies in students of Islamic Azad University of Marand. The statistical population of the present study consists of all students of Marand Azad University, which according to the announced statistics, their number is 881 people. The statistical sample of the study consists of 267 people who have been selected using Morgan table and relative class sampling method. In order to collect research data, three standard questionnaires of Toronto Emotional Dysfunction Scale (FATS-20), Paul Wainwright Physical Symptoms (1991) and Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (CERQ) were used, the validity and reliability of which were confirmed. The results of the study using regression analysis showed that there is a relationship between difficulty in identifying and describing emotions, objective thinking and physical symptoms in students. The results also show that there is a significant relationship between emotional cognitive regulation strategies (positive and negative) and physical symptoms and emotional malaise and emotional cognitive regulation strategies can predict the variables of emotional malaise and physical symptoms. In addition, the results of structural analysis suggest that positive and negative cognitive regulation strategies can mediate the relationship between emotional malaise and physical symptoms.
