Artificial intelligence (AI) in pharma refers to the use of automated algorithms to perform tasks which traditionally rely on human intelligence. Over the last five years, the use of AI in the pharma and biotech industry has redefined how scientists develop new drugs, tackle disease, and more. In recent years, access to patient medical information, coupled with rapid advancements in data analytics tools and technologies, has significantly altered many areas of healthcare, from early-stage discovery and research to patient treatment. One of the most significant applications of new technology is in efforts to streamline and advance clinical research. Advanced technologies, including AI, offer the promise of addressing many of the most challenging aspects of drug. Most AI solutions used in healthcare today are based on human-created data science algorithms. This type of AI uses multivariate data analytics supported by past experiential evidence. It might combine, for example, population-based treatment outcomes with individual patient’s clinical data and medical history to create treatment alternatives and recommend drug combinations.
