Abstract:

The role of a clinical pharmacist is a zestful process which requires abundant skills on the drug’s therapeutic activity and adverse drug reactions. Involvement of a clinical pharmacist in the patient’s health care exploits the healthcare system and declines morbidity and mortality. Principally in stroke, the clinical pharmacist plays a major role in improving a patient’s quality of life because adverse drug reactions, Drug-Drug Interactions, and Drug-Food Interactions are numerous in number. Stroke is a disorder which could take recovery up to years but utilizing clinical pharmacist knowledge is helpful for fast recovery. The main role of a clinical pharmacist is identifying drug-related problems (DRPs), adverse drug reactions, and providing patient counselling that would help to improve the patient’s quality of life and shorten the recovery period. Clinical pharmacist also plays a role in diagnosing stroke by using different stroke scales. The National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale is widely used for diagnosing the severity of stroke. Many research articles are published providing the evidence that clinical pharmacist role is very crucial in improving patient quality of life and health care system. The main aim of this review article is to explain the importance of a clinical pharmacist in health care system and how the patient benefits.
