The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) over marital intimacy and satisfaction in women with sexual dysfunction (secondary vaginismus) referred to medical centers in Shiraz in the first half of 2019. This is a quasi-experimental study with a control group using analysis of covariance. The population included 30 women with sexual dysfunction (secondary vaginismus); 15 in the experimental group and 15 in the control group selected by volunteer purposive sampling and based on inclusion/ exclusion criteria. Walker and Thompson’s marital intimacy scale and Mehrabian’s short form marital satisfaction scale were used as the instruments. For the experimental group, 12 sessions of 2-hour weekly Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) program were run but the control group did not receive any intervention. Multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) was used to analyze the data. Statistical analyzes were done via SPSS-23 statistical software. The results of MANCOVA showed that the intervention increases intimacy and marital satisfaction. Overall, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) intervention can be said to be effective and recommended for women with vaginismus.
