Author: PARVIZ YAZDANPANAH, ELAHE MASNAVI, SAJAD HASSANZADEH
Abstract: Introduction: Rheumatoid arthritis is considered as a progressive chronic autoimmune inflammatory disease associated with different clinical symptoms. It can cause joint degradation and disability, especially at old ages. In addition to its physical effects, it can have psychological effects on the patients. Hence, given the importance of this debilitating disease, the present study was conducted with the aim of epidemiological investigation of rheumatoid arthritis in Boyerahmad city in 2017. Methodology: This descriptive-analytical and retrospective study was conducted on 400 rheumatoid arthritis patients referring to Mofateh clinic in Boyerahmad city in 2017 using census method. After collecting data from the research samples through clinical records of patients, they were coded and entered into SPSS 19 software for statistical analysis. Results: The research results revealed that the majority of the samples (63%) were under the age of 50 years and majority of them (81.7%) were female. Anti ccp level was above 18 in most of the studied samples (69.4%), RF level was below 40 in most of the samples (71.5%), CRP level was below 12 in most of the samples (68.1%), ESR level was above 20 in most of the samples (59.1%), and ANA level was below 12 in most of the samples (60.9%). Additionally, only the mean of ANA in two genders showed significant difference (P-value = 0.042). Conclusion: association of the age and gender with this disease and its high prevalence in women and adolescents and middle-aged people is an important point, which requires paying more attention to middle-aged and female people who have the risk factors of this disease.
