Design, Synthesis and Biological Significance of 4-(1- methyl/ethylindol-3-yl)-6-(Substituted Phenyl) Pyrimidin-2-amine Derivatives as Prospective Antimicrobial and Antioxidant Agents

Author: SUNIL KUMAR, RITIKA
Abstract: A new class of 4-(1-methyl/ethyl-indol-3-yl)-6-(substituted phenyl) pyrimidin-2-amine derivatives were synthesized and evaluated in vitro antimicrobial and antioxidant activities. All prepared derivatives were confirmed by 1H/13C-NMR, IR, Mass spectral studies and screened as in vitro antimicrobial activity against Gram negative (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa); Gram positive (Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus) bacterial strains and fungal strain (Candida albicans , Aspergillus niger) by tube dilution method with their minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) in µM/ml. In general, the antimicrobial activity of synthesized derivatives exhibited better activity. In particular, compound 2 (MIC,an,sa = 0.98 µM/ml) showed good activity against A. niger and S. aureus compound 17 (MICpa= 0.86 µM/ml) showed improved activity against P. aeruginosa and compound18 (MICca =0.89 µM/ml) fungal against C. albicans and compound 19 (MICbs, ec = 1.58 µM/ml) for bacterial strains B. subtilis and E.coli. The antioxidant activity of new prepared derivatives was done by 2, 2-diphenylpicrylhydrazyl method. In synthesized compounds, 14 (IC50=4.79 µM/ml) and 17 (IC50=5.49 µM/ml) exhibited promising results.
