Social Media and Applications to Promote Public Participation: A Case Study of Thailand

Author: SATAPORN ROENGTAM
Abstract: This study's main objective is to propose guidelines for developing the administration of local government organizations using digital technology, such as social media use in the administration. Results will test it in the case of dealing with complaints that come from the public. The research process begins with selecting a research area, which will choosethree specific municipalities in KhonKaen Province, Northeast of Thailand. The study can create one operating system for social media use on such applications and the operating systems, which is brought to the experiment. Simultaneously, the collected data from the experiments using interviews and focus groups with the municipal personnel groups and the community/village leaders. As for the study results, the study found that it could use social media to enhance communication between municipalities and the public. People were satisfied with the use of social media to raise complaints and make recommendations to municipalities. Nevertheless, municipalities can obtain adequate information to use in making operational decisions compared to normal operations. The study can conclude that social media can encourage more people to participate in local government administration and support municipalities to begin to take new approaches in response to the people's needs even better.
