Detecting Fluorine Levels In Bottled Water Available In The Local Markets And Its Impact On Public Health

Abstract: The research aims to estimate the levels of fluoride ion in bottled water bottles in the city of Baghdad, as 10 brands were collected from bottled water, namely: (The Pearl is of different sizes, Al Reem, Aquafina, Hani, Mayzi, Al Kawthar, Al Rawiah) from the local markets. Fluorine concentrations were measured in it, as well as pH measurement and compared with the permissible values and limits of drinking water specifications of international organizations and agencies concerned with health and the environment, as well as the World Health Organization. As the fluorine levels ranged between (0.04-0.34) parts per million, and in all cases from different time periods and different temperatures (4,100)ºC below the limits permitted by international and local standards, represented by the concentration of 1 ppm ,As well as the pH of the study samples ranged between (6.97-8.2) and it is within the ideal pH specified in the Iraqi and Arab specifications. Thus, all the study samples from bottled water bottles are suitable for drinking. It does not cause tooth decay and spotting and it is beneficial to the consumer in terms of its impact on public health, which indicates the low levels of fluorine in Iraqi bottled water, and thus requires increasing its concentrations, especially in drinking water, to reach the ideal concentration, provided that it does not exceed what is recommended by specialists Because high levels of fluorine can cause scarring, rickets, skeletal problems, arthritis, chronicnephritis,andcancer.
