Association Between C Reactive Protein /Albumin Ratio and Systemic Sclerosis Disease Activity

Abstract: Systemic Sclerosis (SSc) is a progressive disease of the connective tissue resulted from autoimmune inflammatory process. Our research aimed to assess the association between the ratio of C reactive protein (CRP) to albumin (CAR) and various manifestations in systemic sclerosis disease.A cross sectional design involved 70 SSc patients with assessment of demographic, clinical data. Investigations including erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), CRP and albumin levels were done. Disease features were correlated with the quantitative CRP/albumin ratio profiles. CAR was correlated positively with ESR (r=.241, P= 0.01*), CRP(R=1.0, P== 0.000**), modified Rodnan's score (r=.546, P=0.000**), EUSTAR activity score (r=.370, p=0.002*), negatively correlated with albumin(r=- .336,p=.004*).The relation between CAR with different manifestations revealed that CAR was highly significantly related to mucocutanous manifestations except for calcinosis, musckeloskeletal , diffuse type SSc and pulmonary manifestations (p<0.05). Also CAR significantly related with ground glass and honey comb abnormaities on HRCT, abnormal pulmonary function tests and abnormal Echo findings (P < 0.05). We concluded that CAR is a good predictor factor for disease activity in systemic sclerosis with a significant relation to mucocutanous manifestations, musckeloskeletal, diffuse type SSc, cardiac and pulmonary manifestations
