Abstract:

Ankyloglossia is a congenital oral anomaly characterized by a short lingual frenum that restricts tongue
movement which may lead to impaired phonetics and other complications like feeding problems and can also
lead to various malocclusions. The procedure that involves the complete removal of the frenulum along with
its attachment to the underlying alveolar bone is called frenectomy. Traditionally this procedure was
performed using a surgical approach but with advancing technology and skills, frenectomy via laser has gained
popularity. This case series highlights the prevalence, etiology and importance of early diagnosis along with
minimally invasive and comparatively painless intervention for ankyloglossia in children.
