Background: Pregnant women can experience stress during pregnancy. To enhance mental health during pregnancy, interventions related to the relation of the mental health are important. The goal of this research was to determine the effect of hypnotherapy on stress, a-amylase and ß-endorphin..
Methods: A randomized control trial. The partisipants consists of 54 primigravida women, 18-28 weeks gestation. The research participants were conducted in 2 groups: hypnotherapy group n=27 and the control group n=27. Intervention every week for 7 weeks. Assessment of stress by PSS (perceived stress scale), a-amylase and ß-endorphin at baseline and after 7 weeks of intervention.
Results: Hypnotherapy can reduce stress lower to hypnotherapy group than control groups (p<0.001), stress level hypnotherapy group (11.592±3.165) and control group (21.481±7.546). Hypnotherapy can increase ß-endorphin levels higher to hypnotherapy group than control groups (p<0.001), hypnotherapy (284.844 ±114.577) pg/ml and control group (130,102±60.375) pg/ml. Hypnotherapy can reduce a-amylase levels lower to hypnotherapy group than control groups (p<0.001), hypnotherapy (31.000±9.942) µl/ml and control group (46,963±9.496) µl/ml.
Conclusion: Intervention with hypnotherapy may enhance pregnant women's mental health, as shown by reducing stress and salivary a-amylase and increasing levels of ß-endorphin. Hypnotherapy is an intervention that needs to be provided during pregnancy in midwifery programs to improve the health of mothers and babies.
