Formulation and Evaluation of niosome loaded topical gel using Acalypha indica leaf extract

Author: S SINGARAJ, S KARTHIKEYAN
Abstract: Acalypha indica possesses Anti-cancer activity and it provides a suitable approach for the skin cancer treatment. 500mg of Acalypha indica leaf is extracted using 100ml methanol in a Soxhlet apparatus for 48hrs and resultant solvent is used for phytochemical screening. Different molar ratios of three surfactants namely Span60, Span20, Tween80 are used with cholesterol and drug for the preparation of niosomes. The particle size of the prepared niosomal formulation is found to be 130.9 to 625nm and the zeta potential ranges between 0.286mv to -13.7mv. Phase contrast microscopy showed the formation of niosomes with closed bilayer structure. The optimized niosomal formulation loaded topical gel exhibited with desired consistency, Homogeneity, pH and the invitro release study revealed the plant extract released up to 24hrs this prolonged release may be beneficial in skin cancer treatment.
