Screening of Phytoconstituents, in-vitro Antimicrobial, Anthelmintic and Anticancer Activities of Caralliabrachiata (Lour) merr

Author: , PREETHI NAIDU V, VAGDEVI H.M, SREEDHARA RANGANATH PAI
Abstract: The plant Caralliabrachiata (L) merr leaves and bark of the plant is still used by the rural people for medication. The aim of the work is to evaluate, presence of Phyto constituents, antibacterial, antifungal, anthelmintic, and anticancer activities of the leaves of the Carallibrachiata (L) merr. The presence of phyto constituents were screened using standard experimental protocol. The antibacterial activity was carried out by Agar disc diffusion method, the Antigungal activity was done by the well diffusion mtehod, the anthelmintic activity was carried against Indian earthworms Pheretimaposthuma, and the anti cancer activity was carried out by Sulforhodamine B method. The following phyto constituents such as Alkaloids, terpenoids, Saponins, Carbohydrates, Reducing Sugars, Flavanoids, Coumarines, Tannins, Steroids and proteins are present in the different extracts of C.brachiata (L) merr plant. The ethyl acetate extract exhibited remarkable zone of inhibition against gram positive and gram negative bacterial strains. The ethanol extract exhibited potent antifungal and anthelmintic activities, the anticancer activity of the ethyl acetate extract of the caralliabrachiata (Lour) merr, was performed using Sulforhodamine B method. The ethyl acetate and the ethanol extracts exhibited considerable zone of inhibition against the bacterial strains A. tumefaciens (12±0.4) as compared with the standard chloramphenicol (17±0.01). The ethanol extract exhibited moderate zone of inhibition against Aspergillus flavus and Curvularia sp (7±1.0and 17.3±0.88) as compared with the standard Flucanazole (10.6±1.15 and 25.3±1.45). Ethanol extract exhibited potent anthelmintic activity.
