Abstract:

The present review is to avail the excellent information on taxonomy, phytochemistry and pharmacology of Indian Memecylon species. Memecylon is one of the complex genera of flowering plants and it’s a vital source of traditional medicine. Due to complexity in morphological characters, identification of Memecylonspecies has become very difficult. Several activities have been reported on Memecylon species in which Memecylonmalabaricumcogn is used in ethno medicine for the treatment of bacterial infections, inflammation and skin diseases including Herpes, Chickenpox so used asAantimicrobial agent. Antidiabetic activity has been also reported by using Methanolic leaf extract of Memecylonmalabaricum. A review of chemical constituents and their pharmacological activites are present in the article.
