Abstract:

The world's oldest traditional medicinal plants are derived from various natural sources that are useful in many
chronic diseases. The traditional plant Caryota urens is the most important herbal medicinal plant. This paper
aims to understand the updated review on ethnomedicinal knowledge of Caryota urens. The Caryota urens palm
trees are nutritionally rich herbal plant sources that have essential components and excellent bioactive
chemical constituents along with their multiple-purpose uses. Various parts of the Caryota urens sap contains
flavonoids, glycosides, carbohydrates, phenol, alkaloid, terpenoid, lipid, fatty acid, amino acids that have their
significant phytochemical potential. The phytochemicals of this plant have been reported for their significant
role as a hair tonic, anti-aging property, and skin health care with patented antioxidant, antifungal,
antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, anti-arthritis, anti-hyperlipidemic, and anti-alzheimer’s activity,
and nutraceutical values. The present review aim is to focus on the phytoconstituents with their medicinal properties and pharmacological effects of Caryota urens.
