Herbal plants for protecting, treating and minimizing skin infections and diseases are relatively lower cost and lesser side effects when compared to modern and allopathic medicines. Butea monosperma (Lam.) Taub. flower have antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory and wound healing properties. Aims of this study were evaluated DPPH radical scavenging, anti-tyrosinase and anti-elastase activities of ethanol flower extract. Total phenolic content (TPC) measurement stink bean seed extracts were done by Folin-Ciocalteu method. DPPH radical scavenging activity was evaluated and compared with butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT). Anti-tyrosinase and anti-elastase activities of extract were evaluated and compared with kojic acid and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). TPC of ethanol extract was 86.01±0.03 mg of gallic acid equivalent (GAE) per 100 g of dried weight. DPPH radical scavenging activity (IC50) of ethanol extract and BHT was 49.43±3.40 and 12.69±3.24 mg/ml, respectively. Inhibitory tyrosinase and elastase activities (IC50) of ethanol extract were 0.02±0.01 and 4.07±1.02 mg/ml; and there were 0.5 and 0.005 times of kojic acid and EGCG, respectively. Ethanol extract of Butea monosperma (Lam.) Taub. flower was exhibited preferable antioxidant, anti-tyrosinase and anti-elastase activities. Especially, anti-tyrosinase, there will be possible to skin whitening cosmetics; and can also reduce wrinkle of skin by mild anti-elastase activity. There may has benefit on designing the process of skin care production, which use Butea monosperma flower as main ingredient.
