Effect Of Rapid Palatal Expansion In Management Of Conductive Hearing Loss- A Systematic Review

Abstract: Objective: To assess the efficiency of Rapid palatal expansion appliance in treating patients with conductive hearing loss. Material and methods: Electronic data base such as Pubmed and Google scholar was searched using Mesh terms like rapid palatal expansion, hyrax, conductive hearing loss. Text in English was considered for this study. No time limit or age limit was considered in this study. Results: Out of thirty seven articles, only eight articles was selected according to eligibility criteria. Hearing levels improved from 2 -19dB in these studies. The risk of bias assessment showed a low to moderate score for the selected articles. Conclusion: The studies indicates that there is a significant improvement in hearing levels after rapid maxillary expansion treatment in patients with conductive hearing loss.
