The purpose of the present study was to investigate the anti-inflammatory activity of the bark of Prosopis cineraria (L.)
Druce. Petroleum ether, methanolic and aqueous extracts of bark of Prosopis cineraria at the doses of 25, 50 and 75 mg/kg
were evaluated separately for anti-inflammatory activity in albino rats using carrageenan paw edema method. Methanolic
extract of Prosopis cineraria was found to suppress carrageenan induced edema significantly (38.21%, 45.22% and 56.68%
inhibition, P<0.01) at the doses of 25, 50&75 mg/kg, Whereas Indomethacin reduced it by 69.42%. It is presumed that the
anti-inflammatory activity is due to the combined effect of various phytoconstituents reported for methanolic extract upon
phytochemical investigation.
