This paper presents the situation and transformations of business owners in the deep south of Thailand,
including data collected through online questionnaires and phone interviews, and it analyzes the data using
descriptive and content analysis. The study found that more than 15 years of violence have caused difficult
living situations among people and negatively affected economic activities. In addition, pluralistic societies have
diminished, and many Chinese and Buddhist business owners have gone out of business or relocated from the
deep south; however, many Chinese and Buddhist business owners still remain in the deep south and have
adapted for survival. In addition, the study found that the number of Muslim business owners has increased and that they have more opportunities for economic activities compared to those years before 2004.
