Author: ADITYA SRINIVAS SERU, K GUNA RANJAN
Abstract: Periodontitis is a disease-related inflammation of the tissue around the teeth. With the approach to understanding the causes and pathogenesis of the periodontal disease, the emphasis has been placed on local drug delivery systems. In the past few years, the treatment has been developed for the use of drug delivery systems to the periodontal pocket, with the benefits of delivering the drug in specific drug delivery systems into the periodontal sinus, with the help of providing medication to a particular site, maintaining drug concentration and control. Local controlled drug delivery system of Ciprofloxacin for the treatment of Periodontitis is highly advantageous. Intrapocket dental films can place into the periodontal pocket and deliver a therapeutic concentration of drugs for an extended period at a much lower dose, hence avoiding side effects
