Indonesia offers local tobacco with high economic value, which can be grown in various types of
agroecosystem. Due to the heterogeneity of tobacco and its content, a research on the chemical content and
antimicrobial activities of Indonesian tobacco bio oil becomes necessary. The information about performance
of tobacco bio-oil as a new natural compound with promising antibacterial activities in Indonesia is significant.
Bio oil in tobacco leaves taken from many central tobacco production areas in Indonesia identified one
compound that is predicted to have antimicrobial activities namely pyridine (50.25 – 100 %). Tobacco bio oil
has antimicrobial activities as bactericide. Bio oil has an anti-bacterial activity against E. coli by 92%. The best
tobacco material for bio oil as a pesticide is tobacco from Probolinggo with bactericidal activity against E. coli
by 100%. The test for antimicrobial activities indicated that tobacco bio oil was more effective when utilized as
bactericide. The pyridine in bio-oil enhances tobacco bio oil as an eco-friendly bactericide.
