Antimicrobial peptides are oligopeptides with five to hundreds of amino acids. As the resistance towards
conventional antibiotic resistance is increasing, AMPs can be considered as promising drug candidates in the
coming pharmaceutical era. AMPs can be found in prokaryotes and eukaryotes. This review article will give
detailed explanation on the history, sources, mechanism and various applications of AMPs. In addition to that,
the resistance developed by some microorganisms against AMPs. Till date there are many AMPs that are
already in clinical trials and research is even going on to modify the AMPs to enhance their stability.
