The Practical and Theoretical Contributions of Police Law in Enhancing the Member Professionalism and Institutional Reform of the Indonesian Police

Abstract: The public demands for increased professionalism of the police in law enforcement, especially with regard to overcoming crime and disorder. The functions and duties of the police are clearly stated in Law Number 2 of 2002 concerning the Indonesian National Police, which functions as a guide to the legal direction of the police. This paper seeks to investigate the legal role of the police in enhancing the professionalism and reform of the Indonesian police. The findings explain the increased professionalism and reform of the National Police, where the Indonesian National Police specifically aim at realizing domestic security which includes the maintenance of public security and order, lawfulness and upholding the law, the implementation of protection, protection, and services to the community, as well as maintaining public peace with uphold human rights.
