Abstract:

The article examines the process of restoration and development of the physical culture and sports movement in the USSR in the 40s (postwar) - 50s of the XX century. The conditions for the transformation of physical education and sports into a national movement in specified years demanded the encouragement of all types of mass sports and physical culture. Sport has also created a new cultural environment, since sports facilities - stadiums, sports palaces, arenas, playgrounds, tracks, swimming pools - have not only become important architectural objects but have also had a significant impact on the entire organization and conduct of leisure activities of the population. Practical work on physical culture and sports at enterprises, institutions, universities, schools was carried out by physical education teams or sports organizations. During this period, sports days were annually held in local physical culture groups, in districts and cities, spartakiads of voluntary sports societies, universities, schools were organized. Numerous athletes took part in them, the strongest of whom took part in the All-Russian and All-Union Spartakiads.
