Transtheoretical model of behavior change developed by Prochaska and Diclemente by the year 1977 is one of the more popular theories that try to explain how people modify their own behavior. It is a model of intentional change that focuses on the decision-making abilities of an individual, rather than the social and biological influences on behavior. TTM is unique when compared to other theories of change as it illustrates changes which occurred over time. The principles of TTM apply to diverse populations including different work site groups such as medical, industrial, retail and governmental, as well as age groups, places of residence such as rural and urban, medical conditions and countries. TTM has been used with Intravenous drug users to reduce the risk of spreading HIV.Despite the limitations Transtheoretical Model are provided through different ways among various populations and settings which produce favorable outcomes.
