Aegle marmelos: Review of traditional uses, Phyotochemistry, Pharmacological activities

Abstract: Aegle marmelos is belonging to the Rutaceae family, the family of flowering plants. It is commonly known as Bael or Bel. It contains many bioactive components in leaves, seeds, fruit, root, wood, and bark that exhibit many biological activities and therapeutic significance. The whole plant contains alkaloids, flavonoids, phenolic compounds, Lignin, fat and oil, inulin, proteins, carbohydrates, steroids, terpenoids, cardiac glycosides. It shows many pharmacological activities such as anti-diabetes, anti- hyperlipidemic, anti-ulcer, anti-diarrheal, anti- inflammatory, anticancer, cardio-protective, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, radio-protective, antipyretic, analgesic, antioxidant, hepatoprotective and wound healing etc. The present review shows traditionally uses and phytochemistry and various pharmacological activities of Aegle marmelos.
