Abstract:

Ganoderma lucidum is commonly known as lingzhi or Reishi, belongs to the family Ganodermataceae. It is a basidiomycete fungus, which has an extensive histories for promoting vigor and long life in East Asian countries before centuries ago. The two main bioactive phytochemical constituents of Ganoderma lucidum are polysaccharides and triterpenes. Ganoderma triterpenes are one of the major secondary metabolites of Ganoderma lucidum [1]. It is traditional medicines of Chinese people were they are popularly used for cancer treatment. The other types of bioactive phytochemical constituents are alkaloids, ergosterols, nucleosides, mannitol etc. The pharmacological activities of Ganoderma lucidum includes, anti-diabetic, anti-hypertensive, anti-hyperlipidemic, cardio protective, immunomodulatory, anti-oxidant, anti-cancer etc [2].
