Abstract:

Purpose: The main purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of meditation based stress reduction intervention on the perceived stress among new university students.
Method: Pre-test post-test quasi experimental design was used in this study. Data were collected from 36 students before and after the implementation of stress reduction intervention using self- reported questionnaire (The Perceived Stress Scale).
Results: The results indicated that there was a significant difference in the overall mean of perceived stress before and after practicing mindfulness meditation program. The overall mean of the perceived stress after practicing mindfulness meditation program was approximately (0.7) less than the overall mean of the perceived stress before practicing mindfulness meditation program.
Conclusions: The researcher concluded that the use of mindfulness meditation program is effective in reducing perceived psychological stress among new university students.
